Dr Ben Limbu is fulltime Cataract and Oculoplastic Surgeon at Tilganga Institute Of Ophthalmology since 2012. Moreover, his expertise includes reconstructive and cosmetic eyelid surgery, treatment of orbital tumors and inflammations (such as thyroid eye disease) and treatment for traumatic lacerations and orbital fractures.
He completed his medical school as first batch graduates from Kathmandu Medical College in 2002 and completed his residency training at National Academy of medical Sciences, Nepal by 2009. Dr Limbu served 2 years in rural community as the hospital chief in Hetauda Community Eye Hospital. Further, he did his Oculoplastic and reconstructive fellowship from Moran Eye Center, Utah (USA) under highly trained and most competent Oculoplastic and facial surgeons in 2012. His other current position includes Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at National Academy of Medical Sciences and Medical Director at Global Eye Centre. Under Dr Limbu’s mentorship more than 24 specialists from Nepal and abroad have completed Oculoplasty, Oncology and Aesthetic surgery subspecialty fellowship.
He have contributed more than a dozen of scientific publications and currently, he is affiliated to 7 national and international scientific medical journals as a reviewer and editor. He has more than two dozens of scientific presentations at national and international meetings to his credit. Moreover, Dr Limbu has two international Oculoplasty surgical workshops in Asia Pacific Region in past as a leading role so as to train and transfer surgical skills to local eye specialists (Papua New Guinea & Indonesia). Currently he is General Secretary for Nepalese Society for Oculoplastic Surgeons and Scientific Secretary for SAARC Oculoplasty Society.
Dr Limbu volunteers each year for more than 4 free cataract surgery eye camps, more than a dozen of screening eye camps, eye health education and awareness campaigns. Apart this he enjoy performing manual small incision cataract surgery and phacoemulsification, he added “joy of sight restoring” is a boost for continuing eye care services.
Recently, he was awarded with “Prodigious SAARC Academy of Ophthalmology Oration in Sub - Specialty for young Ophthalmologist award 2018”
