About:
Dr. Min Joung Lee, MD, PhD is a Consultant at the Ophthalmology Department in Hallym
University Sacred Heart Hospital, and an Associate Professor at College of Medicine,
Hallym University, South Korea.
She graduated summa cum laude from Seoul National University College of Medicine,
and obtained her M.D. degree. She went on to specialize in Ophthalmology and
underwent training at Seoul National University Hospital. After her Ophthalmology
residency, she completed an advanced oculofacial and orbital surgery fellowship at
Seoul National University Hospital.
After three-year fellowship, she moved to Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital, one
of the biggest tertiary referral centers in South Korea. Dr. Lee’s clinical and research
interest focus on oculofacial plastic conditions including orbital inflammation, orbital
tumors, trauma, tearing disorders and eyelid, lacrimal and orbital surgeries. Her passion
in Oculoplastics-related research has led her to spend a year in Casey Eye Institute,
Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). During her time in OHSU, she actively
involved in the studies of orbital inflammatory diseases, such as thyroid eye disease and
non-specific orbital inflammation, in collaboration with Dr. James T Rosenbaum.
Her awards included “Excellent Paper Presentation Award from Korean
Ophthalmological Society (2007, 2011, 2018, 2022)” and “Yulsan Academy Award from
Korean Ophthalmological Society (2010)” Dr. Lee has published more than 70 papers in
international peer reviewed SCI journals.
She currently serves as a Financial Director of the Korean Society of Ophthalmic Plastic
and Reconstructive Surgery. She is also an international member of the American
Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
